Cristina de Parias holds a degree in law from Universidad de Sevilla and an MBA from IESE. She also studied French language and culture at the Sorbonne.
Her career has always been linked to the financial industry, where she started working more than 25 years ago at Banesto, before moving on to Citibank and then Argentaria, which later merged with BBV to become BBVA.
During her career at BBVA, she has held different positions of responsibility, such as CEO of Uno-e (the online bank), Head of Finanzia-Consumer Finance or Head of Innovation and Development for the Group. In 2011, she became the first woman to head a territorial area, the central one.
She leads the company in Spain since 2014. She is in charge of the retail, commercial and corporate & investment banking business of BBVA in Spain. Since her appointment as Country Manager of Spain, she has tackled some major challenges, such as the integration of Catalunya Caixa in 2016 or expediting BBVA Spain’s digital transformation efforts.
Cristina is responsible for more than 30,000 employees in Spain where the bank leads the customer satisfaction score (NPS) in the retail segment among its peers and where digital clients make up for more than 59% of targeted clients. BBVA Spain’s business volume accounts for nearly €350bn and net attributable profit in 2018 reached €1,5bn.
Born in Seville, married and mother of four, she loves going on walks, reading, watching films and travelling with her family. Her colleagues define her as a thoughtful, very intuitive and approachable person.
