How can the class of 2022 support the incoming first year cohort?
We will all have our own uniquely personal stories to tell about first year and we all had our own challenges to overcome. We were put under significant academic pressure, had to navigate a complex recruitment landscape and balance that against a social life with a completely new set of friends from all over the world.
We can all agree that IESE represents a special period of our lives and one which deserves to be enjoyed. The first year is supposed to be tough and as we look back there are many things we all did right but also some things we could have done better.
All the advice we received from those in the year above us was incredibly helpful and now is our chance to pay that forward as the new first years arrive. To make this easier there are 3 areas where we can offer some guidance:
Framing recruitment and managing internship expectations - MBB and AB InBev aren’t the only companies out there and sometimes we can forget just how many career opportunities exist. It’s about finding the right fit and we need to be reminded about this.
Optimizing the daily/weekly workload - We don’t want to be reading cases at midnight and after a year of preparing 3 cases a day we all have tips we can share to help next year’s cohort work smarter and more efficiently.
Maintaining a healthy work-life balance- It was so easy to say yes to everything and the excitement of first year can have us biting off more than we can chew. Some things we learn from experience, and this is one of them.
It’s early days for the Mental Health & Wellbeing Club but hopefully we can put in place a structure not only to help get the most out of our time in Barcelona, but also for living a healthy and happy life after we graduate.
